He is brought to justice in the nick of time, but that is not the end of the story. It is a race against time – if he becomes President, he may become too powerful to challenge. The drama is later played out in the streets and hotels of Manila, where, at Paul’s instigation, powerful people try to bring the beleaguered Senator down before he can be proclaimed as President. The Senators botched attempt to murder him sets in motion a train of events, including betrayal, more murders, infidelity and intrigue that result in Consuelo’s downfall. The Senator proves to be more cunning and ruthless than Paul could have imagined. However, Consuelo is not going to give up any of his windfall willingly. Unfortunately for the Senator the murder was witnessed by a retired Australian soldier, Paul, who seeks his own justice, and personal reward through blackmail.

Three local lads find a hoard of gold – abandoned by the Japanese troops at the end of the Second World War. Senator Consuelo, a streetwise and ruthless politician, is set to become the next President of the country – but is running out of cash to oil his election machine.
